Chocolate Fish Race Results 19-06-2011

Filed under: Chocolate Fish Race Results — Webmaster @ 9:16 pm

Surprisingly dry track conditions greeted the riders for the latest Choc Fish Race held in the Scenic on Sunday 19 June. An undulating course was marked out not giving the riders much rest time between hill climbs.

Oamaru’s Tim Rush had a strong ride, even making it look easy up the final hill climb before the finish line, taking first place. Good to see the Oamaru guys making the trip up for the race. We plan to be back in Oamaru for another race shortly (around August).

Chocolate Fish Race Results 29-05-2011

Filed under: Chocolate Fish Race Results — Webmaster @ 10:04 pm

Oamaru turned on a fantastic warm sunny winters morning as 26 keen riders lined up for the start of the Chocolate Fish mountainbike race held on Sunday 29 May.

The race was held on tracks within the Cape Wanbrow reserve in Oamaru. The well thought out and groomed track had a good mix of bermed down hills, tight single track and an open shingle road. Dry dusty conditions greeted the riders in the pine trees making for a very enjoyable race for all. I'm sure we will be back soon for another blast. Keep an eye on the website.

Note: A number of riders were observed not to pass the time-keepers at the end of their final lap (collapsing at the bottom of the hill instead) - so their last lap was not counted!

Thanks to the Waitaki District Council for letting us hold the race on Cape Wanbrow and thanks to Andrew Milne and Mountain Biking North Otago for designing and preparing a great race track.

Next Choc Fish race will be back at the Scenic in Timaru on the 19 June. See you all there!

Waimate White Horse MTB Trail Closed

Filed under: General News — Webmaster @ 10:45 am
The Waimate White Horse mountain bike track is closed indefinitely because of windfall trees on the track. A wind-storm has brought down 30 mature trees on the track, and flattened a neighbouring forest block. We will advise when the tracks are re-opened.

Chocolate Fish Race/Club Ride – 29th May 2011 – Oamaru

Filed under: General News — Webmaster @ 11:36 pm

Here are details for our combined Chocolate Fish race and Club Ride at Cape Wanbrow in Oamaru, hosted by Mountain Biking North Otago. You don't have to do both if you don't want to, but once you have had a taste of the trails I bet you will :)

Cape Wanbrow is a really cool place to ride. It has a mixture of fast flowing trails and slow tricky technical rooty bits, with a few climbs. The tracks are a lot dryer than ours at the moment (they usually are), so they make a good variation year round.

This is a fantastic opportunity to explore the Cape, have a race, and have some fun too! Please come along and support this event and both the SC and NO Mountain Bike Clubs!
